2010 Magic Night Stakes Final Field

March 24th, 2010

On Saturday 12 of the nation’s most promising two-year-old fillies will be given a final chance to secure their spot in the coveted Golden Slipper Stakes on Easter Saturday, April 3 when they take to the field in the $150, 000 Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill.

As the winner of the 2010 Magic Night Stakes is exempt from ballot for the Golden Slipper, the world’s richest race for juveniles, punters and racing enthusiasts can expect it to be a highly competitive and entertaining event.

The field has been opened right up after the current second favourite for the Golden Slipper at $5.50 behind Military Rose, Crystal Lily, has not been paid up for by her connections to run in the Magic Night Stakes.

One of the early pre-race favourites is the talented Tony Vasil-trained Psychologist

One of the early pre-race favourites is the talented Tony Vasil-trained Psychologist who looks well positioned to secure her second career win after drawing ideally with barrier two. The Choisir filly is currently a $51 chance for the Golden Slipper with Ladbrokes.com.au but a win on Saturday will see her burst into contention.

Clarry Conners’ Widden Stakes winner Georgette Silk has suffered a blow to her Magic Nights Stakes chances after drawing the far outside barrier 12 while the Peter Moody-trained Willow Creek has fared better and will start from barrier five with Luke Nolen aboard.

French Rose, Gerald Ryan’s beautiful grey Lonhro filly, is having just her second career start and she has been put right into the race after drawing the sought after barrier one.

The headline event at the meeting is the $500, 000 Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) that will run as race seven and is due to jump at 4:10pm.

Racing fans can catch the exciting two-year-old fillies in action in the 2010 Magic Night Stakes at 2:50pm as race five at the meeting’s bumper nine-event card.
