Altar has made her claim to a start in the 2011 Golden Slipper field by winning the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes at Rosehill Gardens last Saturday.
Peter Snowden’s Altar is now exempt from the 2011 Golden Slipper ballot and is set to make an appearance in the richest two-year-old race in horse racing this Saturday April 2, 2011.
The classy filly won the $175,000 Magic Night Stakes ahead of Pane In The Glass, who finished in second and fellow stablemate Aerobatics, who passed the post third.
The 2011Magic Night Stakes was full of drama in the early stages, with John O’Shea’s debut starter Quackquack being scratched after acting boisterous in the barrier stalls.
Altar was making just her second career appearance in the 2011 Magic Night Stakes, after finishing third behind Triple Asset and Metonymy in the Group 3 Breeders Stakes at Flemington on March 12, 2011.
The Commands filly was paying odds of $8.50 for her win in the 2011 Magic Night Stakes at leading online bookmaker Luxbet.
Peter Snowden will now decide whether or not to send his Group winning filly to the $3.5 million Golden Slipper this Saturday.
”It wasn’t my intention to go to the Slipper (with Altar),” Snowden said.
”I would probably still say no but I haven’t spoken to the team yet, and we will make those decisions later in the week, I think we have five that will qualify but we will only run two.”
However, word surrounding the Snowden camp is that those two horses will in fact be Sepoy and Altar.
All will be revealed when final fields are announced tomorrow.
