2015 Magic Night Stakes Final Field and Barrier Draw

March 11th, 2015

14 classy fillies have been confirmed in Saturday’s 2015 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) final field; an event won by talented two-year-old Bring Me The Maid in 2014 on her way to a credible third in the Golden Slipper.

Always Allison is yet to taste anything but success over her short racing career so far, and will be aiming to stamp her claims as a serious Golden Slipper prospect in the 2015 Magic Night Stakes despite drawing the wide barrier 11.

Charging home to take out a minor over 1150m with ease on debut, Always Allison made a successful transition to black type racing a fortnight ago when again sprinting well in the final straight to take out the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm.

Confirmed to be partnered by regular jockey Glyn Schofield, Always Allison is the sole 2015 Magic Night Stakes entrant of leading trainer Chris Waller.

Gai Waterhouse has again experienced notable success with two-year-olds this season, and is set to be offered three good chances of another title this weekend after confirming Carriages (barrier 2), Speak Fondly (barrier 12) and Right Of Way (barrier 3) in the 2015 Magic Night Stakes final field.

Running third in a minor over 1000m at Randwick on debut in November, Carriages won the Wyong Magic Millions 2.y.o Classic (1000m) a fortnight later, but was unable to figure late when eighth in the Gold Coast Magic Millions 2.y.o Classic (1200m) last time out on January 10th.

Placing a credible third in the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) on debut, Speak Fondly returned to racing for a close second in the Sweet Embrace Stakes a fortnight ago but may find the going tough early from her wide draw.

Finishing outside the places just once over her four start career so far, Right Of Way ran third in the $150,000 Racing Minister’s Classic (1200m) last time out and is sure to relish a return to Sydney in the 2015 Magic Night Stakes.

Gary Portelli has a high opinion of talented filly Racy, and will also use results of the 2015 Magic Night Stakes to dictate whether or not she will contest the Golden Slipper next weekend.

Taking out the Pro Ride Plate (1000m) by a comfortable length on debut, Racy was unlucky to be blocked for a run and third in the TAB Rewards Plate (1200m) on December 27th and has since been unable to figure in each of her two most recent starts.

Yet to confirm a jockey for the Magic Night Stakes ride, Portelli has been thrilled with the form and class displayed by the daughter of Exceed And Excel in recent weeks and is confident of a far-more convincing performance on Saturday.
